VETERINARIAN License in Wyoming

Wyoming requires a DVM degree from an AVMA-accredited school and passage of the NAVLE for veterinary licensure. The Wyoming Board of Veterinary Medicine oversees the profession. Wyoming has no in-state veterinary school; residents commonly attend Colorado State University, which offers Wyoming residents favorable tuition through proximity and historical agreements. Wyoming's economy is heavily reliant on cattle and sheep ranching across its vast open ranges, making large-animal and mixed-practice veterinarians essential to the state's agricultural infrastructure. The state has the smallest population in the nation, and many rural communities face extreme veterinary workforce shortages, with some areas requiring practitioners to cover enormous geographic territories. Wyoming's wildlife resources are exceptional, including elk, pronghorn, moose, bison, grizzly bears, and wolves, particularly in and around Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
